Rio to the Rescue

The morning of 10/5/2025, started like any other morning. My husband and I headed out for our morning walk, discussing our plans to play golf later that day.

Suddenly our plans shifted. The call goes out to my daughter. He is gone. He is in the woods. I lost sight of him in the woods. The next 5 hours consisted of prayer, stress, more prayer, blame, self-doubt, walking through woods, climbing over downed trees, talking with neighbors, talking with total strangers, and ultimately rejoicing.

Reflecting back on the experience, I am reminded of the importance of recognizing that everything may not go according to my plan. Be prepared to shift how I accomplish goals. Neighbors, friends, and total strangers support me when I ask. Ask for what I want.

Rio reminded me of what I tell my clients, slow down and listen. The answers are there.

Sometimes you have to be willing to go nose to nose (or toe to toe) with someone, something bigger than you to get noticed. Getting out of your comfort zone can be scary, fun, and freeing. When you have a goal in mind, what you fear does not matter. You can hide from others thinking it is safe and secure. Be willing to poke your head out of the place you are hiding. When you do, you may get noticed.

On that morning, if someone told me that Rio, the rescued pup would coach me, I would have told them they were crazy.
